Shed Structural Engineer
Structural engineering design and shop drawings for sheds of all types — machinery, hay, grain, farm, workshop, equestrian, and rural storage. Flat fee pricing. Australia-wide.
Do You Need a Shed Engineer?
If you're building a shed in Australia, you almost certainly need a structural engineer.
Engineering is Legally Required For:
– Sheds over 10m² (most councils)
– Any shed requiring a building permit
– Sheds supporting crane loads or heavy machinery
– Sheds with mezzanine floors or office fit-outs
– Sheds in high wind regions (B, C, D)
– Sheds in cyclone-prone areas
– Sheds on sloping or problematic sites
– Commercial or industrial sheds
Without Engineering You Risk:
– Council will not approve your building permit
– Roof collapse during storms
– Structural failure causing injury or death
– Insurance voiding due to non-compliance
– Costly demolition and rebuilding
– Legal liability if the shed damages property
Our $3,200+GST flat fee engineering investment protects you from far greater expense.
Shed Types We Engineer
Every shed. Every purpose. One flat fee.
🚜 Machinery Sheds
Heavy-duty structures for tractors, harvesters, and farm equipment. Clear-span designs with wide roller door openings engineered for wind loading.
🌾 Hay Sheds
Open-sided or enclosed hay storage. Engineering for wind uplift on open structures, fire separation, and significant dead loads from stored bales.
🌽 Grain Sheds
Bulk grain storage with lateral grain pressure design on walls. Floor slab engineering for heavy point loads from grain handling equipment.
🏚️ Farm Sheds
General-purpose rural buildings for mixed agricultural use. Designed for the specific combination of loads your shed will face.
📦 Storage Sheds
Commercial and rural storage buildings. Engineering for racking loads, forklift access, and compliance with storage regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions
In most Australian states, yes — any shed requiring a building permit needs engineering certification. This includes most sheds over 10m², sheds in high wind areas, and any shed supporting significant loads. Even where not legally required, engineering ensures your shed is safe and won't fail in storms.
Our structural design fee is a flat $3,200+GST regardless of shed size or complexity. Shop drawings are an additional $3,200+GST. No hidden fees, no hourly rates. You know the total cost before you start.
Not always. If you have an experienced builder, engineering drawings may be sufficient. Shop drawings are recommended for owner-builders, less experienced fabricators, or complex structures where detailed fabrication information saves time and prevents errors.
Structural design takes 10–15 business days from deposit. Shop drawings take an additional 10–15 business days. Total for both: approximately 4–6 weeks.
We provide all engineering documentation required for your building permit: calculations, drawings, specifications, and Certificate of Compliance. We don't lodge permits, but our documents are council-ready. If council needs extra info, we provide it at no extra cost.
Usually not. Most shed projects can be engineered remotely from your plans, sketches, and site information. This keeps costs down and is especially convenient for regional and remote clients.
At minimum: shed dimensions (length, width, height), location (for wind region), intended use, and door/opening sizes. A sketch or plans are helpful. Soil reports are useful but not always required.
Yes! We provide shed engineering across VIC, NSW, QLD, SA, and TAS. We specialise in regional and rural areas. See our locations page for your nearest service area.
